Lepo povabljeni!

Adib Abdulmajid is a Syrian activist, who will engage us in a proactive session, where we will take a look on the background of the conflict in Syria, acknowledge the extent of the conflict, found out what does this mean for political elites and international public, and propose possible solutions to end this domestic, but also international conflict. He will also provide us with the field insights on the biggest enemy of the western media, the Islamic State.

Syrian journalist, researcher and analyst, Adib Abdulmajid graduated from Liberal Arts in Damascus and mastered in Management of Cultural Diversity in Tilburg. He is the founder and manager of ARA News agency that covers ongoing developments in war-torn areas across the Middle-East.

His peaceful and beloved habit of smoking shisha in the bars of Damascus was interrupted soon after his graduation in his early twenties, with the tightening of political situation in Syria. He then decided to do something about it. His activist nature is reflected in his actions, which soon seemed unsuitable to their regime. His life path led him to the Netherlands, where he deepened his understanding of the ongoing war in his homeland not only through educational approaches, but also with an active spreading of domestic voices which are consequently reflected in the narration of his homeland’s uncertain future...

The public lecture will be held as a final event of a 9-days long international youth exchange, titled Today Them, Tomorrow it could be you. A project which aim is to start an intercultural dialogue on the local, regional, national and international problem of refugees throughout Europe. It will promote the view of European citizenship as a common space of life and work for all its citizens and residents, even if they do not reside in the European Union. Our partners from Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Macedonia, The Netherlands and Turkey will be joining us in Maribor from the 2nd till 10th of April.
